Our entire school got the opportunity to attend TRYPS presentation of Annie today at Launer Auditorium on Columbia College’s campus. We had several Ridgeway students performing, and while I had to miss it (my toddler and I were home sick 🙁), the feedback from students and staff was so positive! Everyone had a blast and the kiddos performing did an amazing job.
Our PTSA provides funding for bussing for many of our field trips, this being one of them. This funding allows us to take advantage of unique learning opportunities and experiences within our community that we otherwise may not be able to do. Thank you PTSA for making our whole school Mizzou Basketball, Annie and CC Basketball trips possible!
PTSA holds meetings on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 in the library. I know schedules are extremely busy and everyone has their own situation, some of which do not allow for attending these meetings. However, if you are able, I would encourage you to attend when you can. It is a wonderful way to stay connected to things going on at Ridgeway, interact with various staff and other parents, and have a voice in decision making. There will be no meeting in December. January 9th is our next PTSA meeting - mark your calendars!
There will be No RAP next week due to our break. I hope all of you enjoy the three extra days with your kiddos and make wonderful memories together (and hopefully a little relaxation for everyone too)!
Reminders:
I had the opportunity to present at the November 14th PTSA meeting to share some of our district and building goals along with action items we have in place to meet those goals. If you were unable to attend but would like to see the slides, you can find a PDF linked here. A few slides may not make sense without explanation, but most will.
Please check the weather each day before leaving for school. Afternoons have been warm but mornings are quite chilly. Please ensure your child has layers/warm clothing!
Speaking of clothing, please try to put your child’s first and last name inside their coats, hats, gloves, etc. As we enter winter, we inevitably accumulate lots of lost and found items. Many of our students have the same or similar coats/jackets and it becomes hard to find missing items without names.

Unit B
Unit B enjoyed our trips to the Missouri Symphony and Annie! We have a snack time each day, please remember to send a snack to school with your student. Snack donations are appreciated for those who sometimes forget to bring a snack. Lost and found is filling up! Please have your students name labeled on their jacket so it is easy to return lost items.

Music, Ms. Abby Meeds
What an amazing first trimester of music making we have had this school year! I am always eager to begin the year with my Ridgeway Rams and they always come ready to learn, sing and play!
Unit C has been working very hard on some of our review concepts including many rhythms (quarter notes, eighth notes, quarter rests, and half notes). We’ve been having fun playing some review games for these rhythms like “I have who has”, “Post Office”, and even a class competition of teacher vs. class. We have also been reviewing melodic concepts of Sol and Mi, and been preparing three new solfege notes (high, mid and low- to be named soon). Along with those three new notes we have also been practicing them on recorders. I am SO impressed with how much our 5th graders retained from recorders last year, and how quickly our 4th graders have caught on. I am pleased to say that our Unit C students work hard on their playing techniques (posture, hand positions, breath control and support) and produce beautiful, consciousness sounds while playing recorder. We look forward to adding our right hands and playing some lower notes on the recorder in the coming days.
Unit B is such a joy in music. They always come with the most positive attitudes and are ready to be challenged and learn. We are very lucky this semester to have a wonderful field teacher from Mizzou, Mr. Owens, join us in Unit B. Our Unit B classes have worked hard to differentiate between steady beat and rhythms and are moving along very quickly. We are already beginning to learn our first rhythms and our first melodic concepts. My favorite thing about Unit B is how well they play together. Whether we are playing singing games, dancing or trying to decipher mystery songs, Unit B students work together as a team and encourage one another to do their very best.
Unit A is moving at quite a fast pace this year! I was amazed at their very first day of singing how much control they already had over their singing voices. We have been playing so many games and have had such a wonderful time exploring our singing voices and the comparatives of music. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching as they experience the many different elements of music. They notice things very quickly and are able to make connections strongly- like when we sang our falling leaves song they noticed right away that the stair chimes matched the highs and lows of the song and that some of the bars were longer or shorter than others and that correlated to their high or low sound. I look forward to more exploration with them and know they will go far this year!
Sing-cerely,
Ms. Abby Meeds
Thank you!
Thank you for supporting our school through the Book Fair last week! Proceeds from the Fair go towards new books for classrooms and the Media Center as well as next year’s Ridgeway One Read.
If you ordered books through the online fair or as a paid order, I anticipate them arriving at Ridgeway before Thanksgiving break.
Congratulations to the following students who won the book box drawings: Evan B, Andrew A, Julia R, Teagan C, Ryan T, and Lincoln S!
